The wave of our society is the online merchant. I haven't done much online as yet, so I'm looking to know what makes an online merchant successful. What would you say are the keys to success in the online world?

network network network, You have to get traffic up, what good is having an estore if no one knows that your there? Then you have to follow through and get the merchandise out in a timely manner

Thanks for the response. I agree that networking is very important. It's getting people to come to the site. Then, of course, the product has to visible in a positive way and the handling of a sale ultra professional.

I think that there are no differences between online and offline business in general. I think that the key to success in both businesses is in the personality of businessman. One can't reach the success in the business without some features of the character.

I totally agree with that, too. I happen to believe in character, principle, and organization, and all three have to be a part of any business, be it online or a traditional store structure.

The real key here is hard work and a lot of research. If you are just doing one of them then chances are that you will fail on your online endeavor.

To be an online successful merchant you need to a have a bit of everything. You need to have good networks and effective marketing strategies and the ability to build up good reputation and the process of winning over clients and all of them counts to be a successful online merchant.

I think you hit the name right on the head, if you can't capture the click and make them either book mark or do whatever your call to action was, your advertising effort could have been for nothing

Two things that I try to maintain are a positive attitude and perseverance. If you keep thinking that you'll make it in the world of Internet marketing you will. And through that positive attitude, you'll keep moving forward. If you don't have a positive attitude, you're already defeated in your own head.

If I'm promoting a site for my local area, then my marketing efforts change somewhat, for example taking out ad's in the local newspapers or discussion groups.
