Once you start a business online you should start a newsletter or blog to capture potential subscribers. Do you have a advise on blogs or newsletters you would like to share?

Both newsletters and blogs have a place. The key is to be professional in both presentations and be reliable. One thing that always turns me off is when someone advertises a newsletter and you never get it, or get it sporadically when it's supposed to be weekly. Don't promise what you can't deliver!

A newsletter has to come as promised. If you said you will deliver it weekly and it does not come to the customer. They will not trust in you and your business.

I'm absolutely sure that it's much more appropriate to pay as much attention as possible to the blogging. I think that the wide spread of the spam letters is the serious obstacle to use the newsletters as a successful resource for your online business.

The spam issue is a good point to consider. I hadn't thought about that myself. Going to a blog takes more effort, and there has to be something that lures me there. It really needs to be a strong site.

Frankly speaking, I'm not agreeing that the blogging is a very complicated affair. I think that the wide spreading of blogs and the situation when everybody has the possibility to create his own blog for free are the best arguments in favour of blogs.

I would agree about the blogging element. They are everywhere, and they are free as well. The templates are done. All you really have to do is name the blog and make the posts, so yes, blogging is very easy today.

I believe that a newsletter is used to capture potential subscriber and a blog’ job is to keep the reader going back to the site.

I don’t have a newsletter yet but I have a blog which I am making money from. If you want to start a blog then start with a topic that you would like talk about and then keep on updating it frequently.

That's a great way of looking at it. I really hadn't thought about the differences in that respect before, but it sounds very logical. The two have very different purposes.

I would prefer blogs in this case. Newsletters could often become annoying for many members and we might end up losing good customers. Blogs are voluntarily by the members and that is the reason why I prefer blogs to newsletters.
